Last loop, still chasing

Bridle trail is my backyard. I have run so many loops there since I moved to Seattle area (about 2 years). It is 0.8 miles from my house and I used this local trail to train 50 miler over 6000 feet elevation gain for an epic 50 miler trail race (white river endurance run) last year.

I have run this winter 10miler race for 3 continues years, from 2015, 2016, to 2017, the time of 1:09:17. 1:08:40 (CR), 1:07:38 respectiverly. Over 1 min PR from last year out of near 100 mile week (93 mile) is a big step forward especially when i am experiencing some lower leg and foot issues.  Although 2015 and 2016  gave me the win but this year was not enough to keep the win. I was 30"  off the new course records (winning time 1:07:11).

The bitter sweet:

I know there is a fast female going to be racing today, although we have raced each other couple of times I have won and lost, won mostly over 10miler trail race but lost for shorter distance (<=10miler). I know this gonna be close but I am excited to test it out.

At the start, I was a little behind the first group, J is in the first group but I wasnot too worried because she likes to run fast at the start plus i am quite confident on my endurance capacity. Although I wasnot going to rush out in the front but look back that's problely a mistake I have made to stuck behind.  Espcially I know there is a big hill at the start, which i have trained multiple repeats on that hill, and I was not able to pass and lost ~20" there.  I was running hard but controled, after the hill I caught H my SRC running partner,  he is a great guy I can tell he is  trying to keep the pace and help each other,   we only run together for about half a mile.  I start to get a little bit nervous as I know J is ahead of me and 10 miler is not too much time to waist. About 2 miles after the start, PP past by, I know she is fast (short or long) and she could off kick me without doubt. Also, confirmed that my patientce because i know she is faster than me and J at least from the couple runs we did all together.   However, I am not sure which distance she is running either way I know the course records will be broken, with that in mind I kind of just trying to race with my own records.

The first loop took me a little over 33 min at the end of the first loop my friend yeld at me that I was 1.5 min behind the leader so I thought okay try to stay in the task and catch for the 2nd place. The second loop I felt great relax but push hard, i was trying to pass the person in front me the whole time although I finally didnot get to see J and missed couple seconds but this year I runa  every even split 33:38 and 33:51, scary part is I felt I could do another loop about the same pace. Maybe I didnot bring my A game , or perhaps my foot and lower leg issues kind of subconsciously hold me back. I dont think i gave up trying to win but definitely not as confident as I should be. Anway, PP set 5 miler record of 32:04, the new 10miler record is there to reach (1:07:11).

Anyway, racing sometimes is a mental game beyond the pace and fitness.  It is also depends on how much you want it.  To become a real champion, or the place i want to be. I need to be more aggressive more confident.
